It took me longer that I expected thanks to various things, but finally a special post to mark GmodTech reaching 1,000 members. Yes really. I actually started writing this post back when we had about 930-ish members and I had planned to have it all pre-typed and ready to publish for the moment we hit 1,000 members. Except that didn’t happen because I wanted the screenshots I used to be glitch free.

Unfortunately I’ve yet to track down the problem in the map, so I’ve used the best screenshots I could take. Before anyone comments, the lighting/windows are what look odd. The ceilings are not meant to be covered in shadows. Anyway as promised in the last update, this update is going to focus on the new basement. We’ll start with the red side going down.

The Red Side.

As you can see the wall has been removed where the map once was and the ramp to the bottom now sits in its place. This is also where the office used to be, that’s now on the floor below. Also changed here is the suicide booth which is now set into the wall and there are 3 of them to meet with the unexpected demand of people wanting to kill themselves. We’re hoping to add 2-3 more suicide rooms, but We’ve not even started on them yet so no pictures (or details) for now.

Standing at the bottom of the stairs you will see The Boss room to your left, The Strange room in front of you, and the Cart and pit rooms round the corner to your right. As you can see in the picture the office is no longer hidden and everyone can freely go in. I’ve also moved the ‘Meet the Team’ photo frames that hang on the top floor of V1 to the staff room in V2. This was to make space for a couple more teleports (more on those later.)

I think it’s fairly obvious what’s in that room. I’m still working on getting the Boss room working properly as at the moment the HHH and Mono are spawning when the map loads, which they shouldn’t and much to my annoyance. In the mean time, a better preview of inside the room (which isn’t really that dark)

I don’t think I need to explain much about the strange room. Complete with 6 lockable booths, extra thin divider wall and a trigger_push to keep blue players as close as possible to the wall should make strange weapon farming a little bit easier. The little glass porch on the blue side marks the boundary of the Strange Zone. Step over those black and yellow hazard strips and you become affected by the zone. The porch itself stops red players from shooting out of the room.

Since the last update, I’ve added a the ramp that runs along the back wall and the bridge across the middle. Just like they did on V1, the achievement signs show what achievements can be done and utilises WhosAsking’s lookup plugin to give you the details of each achievement.

A very simple room for people who like to simply jump into lava. The pit itself is surrounded by walls apart from the clearly marked hatch. I’ve removed the trigger_push that used to send players up a little in V1, as it turned out it made players take too long to die for achievements like ‘He Who Celt It’ to register. I did think about keeping it but point it down at the lava, but as we’ve been trying to put the map on a diet I though this was a unneeded extra and deleted it. And yes, Gabe the Troll is still there!

The Blue Side.

Under the ramp that leads up to the Intel and Long rooms, is another ramp leading down. Follow this down and around the corner and you’ll see the extended tunnel which grants access to the Pit room, cart room and strange room. The first room you’ll see is the Pit room. Beyond there is a bridge, which passes over where Red players access the Cart and Pit room.

Thanks to some windows, you can actually see into the cart and pit rooms, under the bridge and into the basement lobby, from the top of the bridge. Go down the other side of the bridge and you have a left-or-right choice. Left to the strange room or right to the cart room. The cart and pit rooms are helper rooms meaning you can only get into these rooms as a red player, or if a red player lets you in. The Strange room on the other hand is open access, so you can walk in and out when you like.

The other changes:

The Skybox

The new basement is not the only thing I’ve been working on. One of the main areas I’ve been working on is the new Skybox. I actually want to keep most of the skybox a secret as there are areas in the skybox that you can’t see from the main map. Heck unless you know where to go you won’t be able to see them from inside the skybox itself! What I will tell you though is about a couple of the new features in the skybox.

The first thing you will notice is the new layout. I’ve tried to make the skybox look a little more realistic in how the landscape is laid out. A factory complex surrounded on all 4 sides by mountains and flat grass lands is just not realistic. In V2 I’ve tried to make it look like the map is actually a red owned property that sits next to blue owned buildings (just like in all Valve maps) and that both teams buildings are busy/important industrial centers for each team. I will admit I’ve not completed (or in some cases not even started) all the changes I want to make, but I want to make it look like the Factory is part of an extended real world, rather than a random lone building in a random lone world.

As for things like exploits and rule-related issues, one of the main problems I saw was players being killed as they enter the skybox due to camping players (sentries have been countered by making the skybox entirely nobuild). This was because there is only 1 entrance into the skybox which means all players will pass though a certain area. I have countered this by adding 2 more entrance points as well as a couple of hidden entrance points meaning any player who tries to camp will have a harder time predicting where a player may enter.

New room – The Battle Rustler Room:

A new room to the factory is the Battle Rustler room, designed specifically for the ‘Battle Rustler’ achievement. In fact this is the only room in the entire map build for just one achievement. This used to be possible back in V1a, but with the extended nobuild zones in V1b which will be carried over into V2, it has become harder for players to build and walk between 2 teleports that are far enough apart for the achievement to count. The new room addresses this by creating a 2 linked rooms that are very far apart and allow players to build. The rooms sit above the Running tunnel at each end so are very far apart (You may not know this, but the running tunnel is actually longer than the main map – it only appears shorter because of the speed at which players move) The rooms are decorated in a very simple way – both rooms are big enough to build around 4 teleport and simply have a wall teleport to the other end and a number, 1 or 2. Room 1 has an extra teleport back to the main map.

Teleports:

As mentioned before, the more teleporter doors have been added to the second floor. The teleport to the long room has moved over to the other side so counter the trajectory effect and so far 2 new teleports have been added. The first leads to the Battle Rustler room mentioned above, the second leads down to the Boss room. This teleport is one-way and is located next to the Halloween room so that any players who want the Halloween achievements but head to the Halloween room expecting the HHH and Mono to be in there, have a quick access route to where they actually are. There is room for a 6th teleport door and I am considering adding another off-map room though I don’t really know what. At the moment, I am thinking a second ‘spare’ room like the long room. While we’re talking about that…

The Long room:

The long room has had a slight upgrade. It now has 3 spawnable Lv3 dispensers for each team. Leaving the room empty destroys the dispensers so they will last as long as needed.

The Engineers room:

The engineers room has had a slight redesign. One of ‘Death Metal’ booths have been removed and the space it once occupied has been used to make the 2 short sentry rooms a little wider. Those rooms have also been reworked so that the buttons cannot be triggered by explosions from behind – a bug I noticed in V1 where Demomen could spam grenades at the sentry and in doing so would cause several sentries to be spawned at once. Hopefully these changes will stop this happening.

The other changes in the room are more cosmetic. The dividing walls between the blue dispenser are now glass like the glass between the red ones. The glass back wall behind the Long sentries (the one that stops your sentry turning around and shooting the blue dispensers if another player is using them) has been made more visible, and the spawnable teleport for the ‘Closer’ achievement has been been placed at the end of the glass wall. All together these changes should make items more visible while making moving around better too.

The Halloween Room

Only one change in this room. Extracted directly from the Eyeduct event map, it’s the Bombicon book, the very same one you have to leap into for the ‘Jump Into A Good Book‘ achievement! It needs testing first, but from what I’ve read on various sites is that this achievement will only work on full moons. There’s no word yet if this is another map-locked achievement where actually have to be on a specific map, such as the Foundry achievements and the Quick hook achievement (which requires cp_well.) As I actually forgot to take a screenshot of the new room, have a picture of the HHH in a glass dome instead!

The CTF Room (aka Intelligence room)

Other than a name change so that it’s not mistaken with the Information room, the CTF room has had a slight layout change. Basically, the circular capture area has been pushed towards the main door to expand the walking space between it and the wall, particularly by the locker. In V1, this area was a little too narrow and often people would cap the intel when they didn’t want to.

The duelling fields

While enjoyed by many, there are always the occasional trolls who like to get in the way. In V2, the fields now have class domes and lockable doors so that player who wish to use them can !setspawn in there and use them as much as they like without being bothered. Each also uses the same player detectors to check if the they become empty, in which case the door opens. Because of the domes, I have replaced the diving board from V1 with a water-polo game. The water-polo was mentioned in the last update, but at that time you could switch between the diving board and polo. That feature has been removed.

Bonus stuff

I am going to say just one thing, and it’s only to satisfy Snaggle. There is a creeper somewhere. That is all.

Have you ever felt the need to express your undying LOVE or unabashed HATE for another player?

Now, you have the chance.

I’m happy to announce the addition of a new Reputation system to the GmodTech achievement servers (Factory, Botfarm, and Turbo), made by yours truly.

Using it is as simple as typing “!love <player you love>” or “!hate <player you hate>” in the chat window. Then the object of your affection will receive a notice to that effect. It can be applied to any live player (no Bots) other than yourself. But vote carefully. Once you do, you cannot make another vote for 15 minutes.

If you find other people have been sending your their love or hate, you can use !myrep to learn where you stand. Reputation here works like Karma in Fallout: positive reputation means you’re being loved, negative means you’re being hated, and 0 is neutral.

There’s more to the new Reputation system than just bragging rights, though. Keep an eye on our website as we begin posting a leaderboard of the most-loved players. And who knows? The player with the most love may just find a pleasant surprise waiting for him or her…

I hope everyone had a happy new year. I thought I’d add a little more info about the 6 pictures I uploaded a couple of weeks ago, because there is more than meets the eye in most of these pictures.

Picture 1: The office

The office in V1 is a little empty bonus wise. The office and staff rooms themselves were meant to be bonus’s in their own right as they are hidden. Beside the visual jokes though (Snipers mug from ‘Meet the Sniper’ resting on a toxic barrel) the only thing people go in the room for was to press the button behind the Painis Cupcake poster which of course only ever works once.

So what’s new in V2? Well I think the most obvious change is the safe which has had a notable upgrade. Yes the old items are still there, you just need to figure out how to open the safe first. What else is in the safe you ask? I’m not telling! I will tell you that you can actually see the button that opens the safe in the picture.

While on the subject of buttons, there are 3 in this picture (so far). We all know about the Painis Button, and I’ve just told you there is a button to open the safe, but the 3rd button I will let you guys find. I won’t even say what it does because I don’t want to spoil the surprise.

Picture 2: This thing

This is actually an example of our efforts to put the map on a diet. In V1 this space at the top of the stairs houses a load of toxic barrels and a lone bird, as well as a teleport to the sky-platform. The problem was though that all those barrels took quite a bit to render on players computers. So long as the map ran OK on my laptop (which technically shouldn’t be able to play TF2) we figured the map was stable enough. Now though we want a bit better than ‘good enough.’ We want playing on the map to be a smooth experience.

In these example by removing the barrels we cut down on the number of individual things to be rendered while in that area. Many other things have reviewed to see where reductions could be made and hopefully these changes combined with some clever areaportaling that WhosAsking and I are still working on, the map as a whole will run smoother and be a smaller file than the current 81.0mb of V1b. Having said that, a fair amount of the file size is the custom stuff like the music and textures. File sizes aside, the map should be a much better optimized experience.

Picture 3: The Bot Rooms

The bot rooms are where 80% of achievements happen. Most achievements require killing x number of players, or killing certain classes while they do certain things. We are very proud of how adaptable the rooms and the bots are. Because they are so important for achievements were take anti-trolling measures seriously. The addition of the glass door guards, empty-room detectors and changed Helper door design in V1b have all helped individual players get achievements without being disturbed. We have found there are room for improvements though.

The glass door guards, while they stop players shooting into or out-of a room, people walk into the guards themselves a lot. The guards in V2 have been changed slightly to make them more visible which should help, though we won’t really know till they get tested.

The empty-room detectors are probably one of the things expected to be used in Snaggle’s upcoming BotfarmV6. In Factory_V2 though, we are considering removing the 10 minute timer on the doors altogether so that as long as a player is inside a room the door will stay locked. We also want to add a sentry detector that will keep the door locked for a short time (probably up to 20 minutes) so that engineers can leave their sentries to farm their 5,000 kills without some troll coming along and swapping the team of the bot or any other annoying behaviour. Ideally we would set up the detectors so that if the engineer stays in the room the whole time the room stays locked, but if they die with the sentry still in the room the timer would start the moment the player died. However we aren’t sure this is possible yet so it may not happen, not to mention we can’t do anything about the players who never lock their doors or leave the room to go do something else while their sentry farms kills.

The other thing I mentioned was the helper doors. While the newer doors used in V1b are more secure in how they only let in one player at a time and it is much harder to fire across the doorway, they do have a drawback – Its harder to see though at what’s on the other side. This means red players can’t see if there are any camping trolls waiting to rush in when the door opens, and blue players can’t see if the room they are going into has any waiting sentries. The solution has been to remove the doors completely and replace them with windowed teleporters. The new design improves the visibility in both directions and is impossible to shoot though because there are moving gaps. Instead there are 2 teleport panels on the floor, one each side of the room. On the blue side, the teleporter is disabled and is only enabled when a red player presses the button. The waiting blue player gets teleported to just the other side of the glass. On the red side is an always on teleport that is filtered to only teleport blue players back to the Blue spawn.

Of course none of those things are actually visible in the picture above, even though they are the more important changes. The ‘new’ red colour scheme in the bot room is to help emphasise the fact the bot rooms are Red territory and that any blue player is a guest in there. Some players can’t seem to understand that they need to be on the Red team if they want to use all the features of the Factory. Though what surprises me is when a blue player waits by a helper door for a red player to let them in, and eventually a red player does, the blue player then goes and kills the red player and steals the room! Then the Red player complains that they got killed and their room stolen when all they had to do was not open the door! *end rant*

Pictures 4 and 5: The new basement.

The basement is actually kind of hard to describe without more pictures but at the time I took those pictures I was still working on the areaportaling for parts of the basement, and not all them were working properly leading to graphics errors. I hope that in the next update I will be able to show you the layout of the basement and all its rooms. I can however tell you a bit more about what’s down there.

As the picture shows, the cart is one of them. It runs on a shorter track and doesn’t go up or down any ramps meaning players should find it easier to ride the cart. I plan to add a raised section along the back wall so that players can easily get onto the cart. The cart itself moves 10% faster than it does in V1, meaning it’s now only 6-7 seconds in between capping points rather than the near 30 seconds on V1.

The other room I’ve been working a lot on is the Strange room. Its much more compact and the dividing wall is much thinner. I have added a gentle trigger_push to the blue side that presses them against the wall. The red side has more – each of the 6 booths has a door which shuts automatically and reopens when the players leaves (using the same method as the Bot rooms to detect for players) and has a func_regenerate to help. FYI, a func_regenerate is the thing that actually makes lockers work though the 2 in the Strange room aren’t paired with a model.
The main change to the room though is the doors – both teams can walk in and out of the rooms at any time with any weapon, unlike the button in V1 which doesn’t like arrows or sniper rifles. Even though its not needed, that button might remain due to the fact the strange room isn’t a short walk from spawn.

What will possibly be the 2nd most popular room in the basement is the Boss room. Located so far under the factory it should really count as an additional floor in its own right, its also secure enough to hold both the HHH and Monoculus. Both are spawned by the buttons seen above which will have signs on or near them to show which button spawns which. The room will also feature a smarter reset mechanism – All red players are teleported back to spawn 5 seconds after either boss dies, while any blues (who shouldn’t be there) and any buildings are destroyed, meaning players can’t just idle in the room waiting for the HHH/Mono to respawn like happens on Botfarm and killing it with a sentry.

The other 2 rooms on the basement are the Pit room which is simply the relocated lava pit from that used to be in the middle of the cart track, and the office which is no longer hidden.

Picture 6: A toilet?!

Yes, its a toilet. I’m not going to say anything about where this is or what is in there. In fact the only thing I will tell you is that somewhere in this room is a unlockable teleport to another bonus room. Oh and the teleport is not unlocked within this room, that’s hidden somewhere else!

As some of you may remember we use to have a server which had the achievement_turboV14 map running on it, this was then replaced to make way for Werewolf and WhosAskings map achievement_factory. As a small early Christmas present, i’ve setup a 5th server with the old achievement_turbov14 map on it that you guys are welcome to visit.

The map has 3 bots like before and i’ll be adding the !saveloc and !teleport mods later today hopefully. You can find the I.P address here: 81.19.212.44:27025

Though the server may change map/gamemode later down the line, for now feel free to use it!

Hope you guys have a great Christmas

This is the master list for all the rules we have on all our servers. We want all players to have fun on our servers and we have many extras to make being on our servers enjoyable. We have these rules in place to ensure that everyone can have fun, not to stop you having fun. We try to be as fair as possible but we do have to limit what players can do. The reasons for these rules are explained below, so if you don’t agree with them after reading the reason then I suggest you find some different servers to play on.
Otherwise if you have any questions then feel free to post a question here or contact one of the admins privately.

Admins and Moderators are Gods
Or near enough. Whatever an admin or moderator says, goes. If an admin or moderator tells you to stop fighting in a certain area then you move somewhere else. If an admin or moderator does something like swap your team, disarms you, freezes you or moves you to a jail, it is for a reason. Don’t argue with it.
Current Admins
These are the current GmodTech Admins. Clicking the blue ‘Add as friend’ button will open your steam and send an invite to them to add them to your friend list. Do this so that if you need one of us you can contact us ASAP!

Current Moderators
We also have Moderators who are mini-admins. They can jail, swap players teams and even kick players, as well as some other admin only commands. While Moderators can’t ban or unban players, if they call one of the admins and ask for a player to be banned then we will. They can be identified in-game by their olive tags and name. Our current moderators are:

J.P. – [Steam Profile]

[[Insert Profile Name Here]] – [Steam Profile]

For a list of the donaters, click here

Botfarm and Factoryrules

We do not allow random killing on our achievement servers. We define random killing as attempting to kill any other player, whether they have God/Buddha/uber/powerplay mode or not, when they do no want you to. Just because a player is unable to die does not mean you’re allowed to get away with trying – they probably don’t want to be pestered by other people while they do what they are doing.

We also do not allow players to prevent any other player from getting achievements, whether it be by swapping the team/class of the bot they are using, opening the water pit, pushing the player or their bot into something like a tele-trap, or away from something like a dispenser while they gather healing points. This also includes locking all the bot room doors so that the rooms are left empty, or using noclip to open locked doors while others are using a room.

We allow people to duel each other provided it doesn’t interrupt other players achievement farming. If you’re an Engineer, then use your wrangler to stop the Sentry from firing on other players. If you’re a Pyro, don’t spam Mouse1 in case you ignite other players. Just use your common sense! If you want to duel, a good location is the football (soccer) field on Botfarm or the duelling fields on Factory. They are out of the way from others there and were put the specifically so that we can tell who is duelling and who isn’t, as well as keeping duelists and farmers separate.

If you are being attacked by another player then tell us either by messaging us though steam, using the in-game !help command or as a last resort the !report command. Admins can put them in jails, or kick/ban them. Moderators can jail players or kick them if needed. If there isn’t an admin or donater online, then find some place where the offending player can’t bother you and use the commands mentioned above. The bot rooms on both Botfarm and Factory have lockable doors for a reason!

Any player caught disturbing other players by random killing or otherwise will be given a warning (usually by jailing) and be kicked or even banned if they continue. Bans are usually an hour, but can be longer depending on any previous bans or what exactly the player was doing.

Surfserver rules

On our surf server we do not allow players to tunnel-camp, this being when any player waits somewhere for another player to come though a teleporter and ambush them. We will often simply kill the offending player and let play continue, but if a player keep camping the same spots then we will kick them.

Some players follow a ‘No Kill’ truce in the Music rooms of various surf maps. This ‘rule’ is not set by us and we do not enforce it! This is simply something some of our regular players started doing and agreed to by themselves. We will not kick players for breaking this rule as its not an official rule.

Some of the maps we use have cap-able points at the end of the course which skilled players can reach. However lots of players will complain when other players cap the point. While we wont ever kick or ban a player for capping the point (to be fair if a player is skilled enough to reach the end of a surf map then it seems unfair to ‘punish’ them for skill), we ask that players avoid doing to keep everyone happy.

Micspam, language & insulting

Micspam is allowed on all our servers to a certain level (even some of the admins do it). Try to keep it funny/in good taste and it shouldn’t be a problem. Just don’t play your micspam over other players when they are talking or if they are playing their micspam first.

If however you don’t like what you hear you can mute players from your menu screen. The button is a small one located on the ‘Start playing’ button, with a ear logo. If though, enough people are annoyed by someone’s micspam they may get muted on the server. We don’t want to hear every single noise people make!

Another thing no one want to hear is hate speech. Everyone has a right to their point of view, but that does not mean that you have the right to insult other players because they like or dislike something you disagree with. We never ban players for what they believe (about anything), but we will ban if players if they start causing offence to others.

The ‘English only’ rule

While English is the common language on our servers, we are not an “English only” server. While our MOTD’s say “This is an English server, please speak English here”, we know that not everyone can speak English so it’s unfair to expect everyone to use a language they don’t know or understand, and so we are happy for any player to talk in what ever language they like. However we may still use translated messages to let players know they are on an English server and that the common language is English.

Werewolf and WhosAsking also designed the Achievement_Factory map to be as language friendly as possible, using pictures to help players understand what the various thing in their map do, including a Translation Room on the second level above the jail.

Werewolf also has a thread looking for players to translate a short message into various languages. If you want to help out, check out the thread here

Many of these translations are used in our Message of the Day pages in Factory and Botfarm. Any language we have available can be displayed simply by clicking the appropriate flag icon on the page.

Sprays, swears and porn

While we are thinking about language, try and keep your language clean. We all are guilty of the odd occasional swear word but spamming the chat box or voice chat will get you gagged/muted. If your being really offensive to others we will kick or even ban.

Sprays are much the same, we all like funny ones but there are kids who play on our servers, so avoid the really adult stuff. Porn sprays are a definite no including the cartoon kind. We have a spray tracer plugin so we always know which spray belongs to which player. We understand that if we ask you to change your spray that the change wont take affect until after you rejoin the server, but that does not mean you may continue spraying an offensive picture. Doing so may result in you being kicked or banned.

Believe it or not we still have to follow the laws around such things on the server, and while I very much doubt any one would ever get in any trouble for a simple porn spray, not everyone wants to join and find the picture from certain websites sprayed on the wall.

Ban Policy

As a general rule, all players have 3 chances before being permanently banned. Generally the first 2 bans are for 1 hour each, the 3rd ban is 1 day with the 4th ban being permanent. Occasionally we ban people for longer periods if they are using donater powers to exploit others or if a player rejoins as soon as a prior ban has been lifted and continue what they were doing before. However all our admins are different and they may decide that longer or shorter bans are more appropriate. In each case it is up to them to decide what they think is the fair punishment.

When players join a server, the admins see a message (hidden from other players) that alerts them that a connecting player has previous bans and how many they have. This means that if you have been banned at least once, we will know to keep an eye on you while you are on the server. We can also check any player for existing bans from within the game.

Bans apply to all of our servers. So for example if you were to get banned from Factory for an hour, you would also be banned from Botfarm, Surf and VSH as well.

Very few things result in instant permanent bans, those things being Hacking (we also report any player caught doing this to Steam and present our console logs where we can as evidence) and players who join and immediately start causing trouble with hate speech, racism, homophobia or anything else like that.

Nearly all players have to right to protest a ban if they think the ban was unfair. You can do this using the ‘Appeal a Ban’ button at the top of our homepage, or by clicking this link here. Where possible we will make sure a different Admin to the one that banned review a protest. For example if Werewolf banned a player and that player sent in a protest, Werewolf would not respond to the protest. Instead of the other admins would look at the protest and decide whether they think the ban was fair or not, though they may talk to the Werewolf to check both sides of the story. There is no guarantee that a protest will be accepted and the ban lifted because the reviewing admin may agree with the original ban.

It is important that you include your Steam ID when you do this so we can find your ban in the database. All our bans are Steam ID based so even when players change their name we can still see their bans. We also record players IP addresses as a backup measure. The only players we do not accept ban protests from are those who have protested a permanent ban and had it lifted, only to get permanently banned again. If this were to happen any protest from that player will be ignored.

Some tips for donaters
The following is a basic guide to some do’s and don’t's that we’d ask all player to follow but these mostly apply to those with donater status. These are not rules, more like being a guide to not accidentally annoying others.

Giving out powers. – Your powers are yours to use as you please and are intended at the most part to help you get achievements.
Do: Give player powers if they need them for an achievement, particularly if you are helping them. They need to kill you quicker? Let them have crits. Just remember to remove the powers afterwards. If they start abusing those powers, take them away and call an admin.
Don’t: Give every player who asks a power. After all, you paid for those powers and your now giving this person powers for free! That’s unfair on you. As well as that, as soon as you have given one player god mode, they all ask you for it. Trust me, you do not want every player spamming you with “I can haz god plz?!”

‘Admining’ – If there isn’t a admin online at all (not in game or on steam) and you are confronted with a player breaking the server rules, there’s a good way to deal with them and a bad way.
Do: We get new players join everyday (particually F2P players) and some of them will think our achievement servers are deathmatch servers. By attacking them back, you are actually confirm this in their mind, and they continue trying to attack you and others. If on the other hand you stand there and take it, it confuses them because they don’t understand why no one is fighting them back.
Instead try and tell them the rules of the server (tell them to say “!motd”), or bring them to an empty bot room. If they are on blue, encourage them to join Red as they will be able to use more of the maps. If they keep ignoring you, use the !bring command to put them in one of the jails. I know that they will be able to escape because donaters can’t set another players spawn, but you can at least bring them to somewhere where they can see the rules!
You can also use the !help command to call an admin though the chat, or if an admin does not respond (we can’t be on the console 24/7) then use the !report command which will send all the admins an email. But please remember to provide their SteamID.
Don’t: Attack players back or defend other players. If someone attacks you or another player, don’t try to stop them by attacking them back because as I said before, doing so mean they think it’s OK to do that. Because you stand out as being different from a normal player you will get more attention with a lot of them thinking your an admin. If they call you admin, don’t claim to be. Tell them you are a donater with some admin powers. One thing we especially do not like you doing is saying you will kick or ban them. The admins and moderators decide if and when to kick or ban players, not you.

The !bring command
Do: If you need to move a bot, find one that no one is using!
Don’t: If you move a bot, remember to put it back! They may respawn where we set them, but only when you kill them! As for players, its better to use the !goto command to go to them rather than constantly bringing them. It can be annoying when someone keeps moving you because you can’t do anything about it.

Have an admin on steam
Do: I speak for all the admins when I say we don’t mind you adding us. If you need help then having at least one of us on your friends list means you always have someone to contact if or when you do. The more of us you add, then the better chance you have at catching one of us when we are online. The links to add all the admins is at the top of this page!
Don’t: If we aren’t online, please don’t rage at us for not being online when you happened to need us. We are all humans who have other responsibilities – Snaggle, Werewolf, WhosAsking and Travis all have real, actual jobs!

14th December 2011 UPDATE:
So whats going to be new in V2? Find out now!

~Monoculus: I think this was pretty well known, but Monoculus will be added to V2. A second button has been added to the same room the HHH spawns in, and it been set up so that only one of them can be spawned at a time. This is just to prevent the map from crashing, though once all the new planned features have been added and the map re-optimized, we might be able to have both spawn at once. We’ve put the Monoculus in the same room as the HHH as its a nice sealed area that we can let the Monoculus loose in without him causing trouble around the rest of the map. The room they both spawn in is currently known as the Boss Room, and it has moved to….

~ The Basement: The factory has a new 3rd level, located in the basement. The basement houses 4 rooms; the Cart Room, the Pit Room, the Strange Room and the Boss Room. I’ll explain a bit about each room below. Red players go down a ramp where the office/staff room used to be, and blue players go down a ramp under the existing ramp in the helper tunnel. The office/staff room is still under the ramp, but it now in the basement as well. It’s also no longer a hidden room as the window is now a normal two-way glass and the door is just a normal door. There are some new things in the office, but I’m not telling you what!!

~ The Cart Room: The cart is now inside and has become a helper room. Red players can access the room at any time and can let in blue players to help them. The cart itself moves 10% faster and runs on a shorter track. As it no longer goes up or down ramps it should also be easier to ride on. Also the teleporters in the spawn rooms that used to go to the cart no longer work. Instead they now go to the teleport tower in the middle of the duelling area.

~ The Pit Room: The great lava pit that used to sit in the middle of the cart track has also moved inside, and also to a red accessed room. Blue players can be let in to help with achievements.

~ The Strange Room: The strange room has been upgraded and integrated with the main building. Players from both teams can now easily walk into the room, which now has lockable doors on the red side. The room itself is now more compact, squeezing in 6 booths with enough room to build and move while saving on space.

~ The Boss Room: The boss room is also part of the basement and is no longer under the hut. As much as I loved having a prison hidden in a fireplace lift, it was a pain having to show players where to find the HHH each time. By having it in the main building it means its all achievement items are in once place. Another reason for moving the room was to make it red only. A common problem we found was that players would leave their sentries unattended which mean if a player from the other team came in they would have to deal with the sentry.

~ The Teleport Tower: The teleport tower has had slight upgrade, it now has a upper room from where you can see the duelling fields. It is simply a room windowed all around so you can look without being sniped (or can’t snipe from)

~ The Pool: The pool has had an upgrade too. Now you can switch it between ‘Diving’ Mode and ‘Polo’ Mode. In Diving mode the diving boards (yes, two) are active. In Polo mode, the diving boards disappear and t2o goals spawn and a ball spawn instead. While it would be possible to add a scoreboard like on the Football field, we aren’t sure it would work properly if the Diving mode was activated.

~ The Skybox: The skybox will have a new design, but for now I am keeping the design secret. Like the v1b skybox, it will be all nobuild and the very center of the map will be inaccessible.

~ Bonus Items: So far there are 4 new items (2 built already, 2 WIP’s) Like before, we won’t tell anyone until the day the map goes live on the servers.

~ Release date: Having learnt not to set release dates from V1, there is no set release date for V2. It will be done when we finish it so please don’t keep asking us!

WhosAsking and Werewolf (mostly WhosAsking though) have worked on a update to V1a to fix a few exploits in the map, as well as make some changes which should make the map as a whole more stable.

Major changes include:
~ Fixed upgradable dispensers for ‘Circle the Wagons’ Achievement
~ Fixed nobuild exploits – Build-able areas inside the factory have been limited to the bot rooms, a small area inside the Engineer room, and the Long room.
~ Changed the helper door design.
~ Added new glass walls to prevent players firing into rooms.
~ Added a mechanism to make bot rooms re-open if they are empty (Your move, trolls! EDIT: One troll took us up on that challenge and managed to lock the rooms. He’s now been banned and the exploit he used has been fixed in V2)
~ A Regen field in the Red side of the strange room to make Jarate/Milk farming easier.
~ Pyros Tennis courts reset after a game is won.
~ A few more small changes to help map performance.

Also exciting news is our new server, Versus Saxton Hale! It’s not just Saxton, we also have Christian Brutal Sniper, Horsemann Jr and Vagineer, on a variety of custom VSH maps. Check it out, it’s a lot of fun – 81.19.212.44:27013
