We’ve been away.
Since our last news update, very little has happened on the map. Unfortunately both myself and WhosAsking have had to deal with issues in our private lives which have taken us both away from being online at all. We’re not going to details about what’s been going on because nether of us want to share those details outside of people we trust.
For me at least, my IRL problems are behind me and I am re-beginning working on the map. WhosAsking on the other hand is still away and I don’t expect him back to his previous levels again for any time soon.
It’s been a long time.
There is also another reason I am posting this today. Did you know that Achievement_Factory_V1 is ONE today!? Its true! We said a fond farewell to Achievement_Turbov13fix at 7pm when we closed the server. An hour later, we opened Achievement_Factory_V1 to the wilds of the internet and the rest is history. If our IRL issues had not got in the way, we would have been releasing Factory_V2 today. We still can’t set a date for release because in two weeks the next Halloween update will be out and we’ll have that to contend with (one of the early complaints with V1 was that we released too early to take Monoculus into account–we’re trying to account for any new “bosses” this year).
But I will say this. Both WhosAsking and I are getting bored of the constant setbacks, and we are going to push for an end of the year release.
A little Preview.
So that this news update is not a total text-fest, I thought I’d show off a new feature – The Boxing Ring. Amazingly I have had people asking for this to be added and I keep telling them we have and we announced it long ago…. turned out we didn’t! So, here is the first official picture of it.
Stepping into the ring strips all players of ranged weapons, forcing Melee mode inside the ring. Hitting that button in the middle raises the 4th side, while the towel on the corner post opens it back up again in case a player wants to “throw in the towel”!
The wall also opens up when one of the players inside is killed (even if other player is still alive in the ring) so that they can be let back in. We don’t force any specific classes since any of the classes can make for fun fights. Besides Heavy Boxing, you can have Eyelander Duels, Fire Axe Fights, and so on.
Around the edge, other players can watch the match inside without being able to interfere with it.
The Status Board
In V1 I’ve noticed how some players shoot at the sign to see what it does, which is nothing. All it does is shows players which rooms are locked and which are open. In V2, it does a little more. Now if you shoot the sign it will shut all 8 bot room doors. Now this sound like a very troll thing to do, after all we have put great efforts into stopping players from locking rooms from the outside. If you’ve been following our news posts though, you’ll know that doing so makes the rooms perform a check for players or sentries inside.
If a room is empty the door will re-open, and stay shut if a player or their sentry is inside. That means that when you shoot this sign, you get an instant update oh which rooms are in use at any time, with the side benefit of locking rooms for other players who may have forgotten to do so themselves. Because of this, I will be encouraging players to shoot this sign!
New Doors… again
We found a flaw in the previous design, that it required a massive func_nogrenades zone to prevent blast damage. Having messed around with the helper door guards, I applied the same curved wall method to the main doors and made them ‘airlock’ style. Each has two doors, one of which is always shut. The button toggles both doors and thanks to the button being double sided, a blue player inside the room can still let a red player in without the blue player ever being able to escape or shoot though the booth.
One last picture
The Snipers Camper van. That is all.
